The elderly tell this legend when they are asked about the name "Dorna". Dragos- Voda (a Romanian prince from the middle ages) called "Descalecatorul Moldovei"(the one that came first in Moldova), was hunting in these parts.
Here he saw a beautiful girl, with golden hair called Dorina. Dragos went hunting in a thick forest where he saw a deer which he started to follow. The deer was quik on it's feet and always managed to escape the hunter's arrows, but at a time it stoped to ake it;s breath next to a large fir. Then Dragos strtched his bow and fired an arrow. From behind the tree came a sound of pain resembling a human's voice and the deer jumped away and ran in the thick forest. Dragos ran towards the tree to see what happened and saw that he killed the beautiful Dorina. Remousefull, Dragos burried Dorina in the exact spot where the girl was killed and in her memory he named the river that was flowing far from the place "Dorna" and the places Vatra Dornei that became in time the Vatra Dornei that we know today.
